Week 3 - MBA 6601 -"Three perspectives: Optimist, Pessimist and Realist" of AI

Image
Growing up with technology already being pretty advanced gives a very different perspective than many to how I might perceive technology. My parents grew up in the time when the internet was just being created and my grandmother grew up with no advanced (at least what we would say modern today) technology. These three generations will have very different views on computers, and thus AI. You can even say in my generation there are different views. My sister and I are four years apart and experienced different stages of technology. Though I don't think this is what Todd was going for when he titled this subtitle I think that the generations really do share opinions with each perspective. Older, my grandmother, being the pessimist, my parents being the optimist, and my sister and I the realist. When I share some stories from work my family usually responds with "thats disgusting" or "how did they survive that?" due to working in Emergency Medicine and seeing all t

Week 3 - MBA 6601 - AI or Computer Programing; The Same?

Image
Currently enrolled in a marketing class that is focusing on marketing and AI techniques. This course is also allowing me to explore more about AI and realizing what AI truly is. I think to know what AI and how it is going to change all the markets and fields you need to know what it is. I think in addition to the course work it is important to find other material that will help you understand the objective at hand. With LinkedIn being another focus of this course I used it to try to find different articles about AI and Computer programing. In my search I found an article written by another AI and digital expert explaining the difference between the two; AI and computer programs. He explains that "unlike traditional programming, which operates on a set of specific rules and logic, AI systems are dynamic. They sort through data dividing it into training, validation, and test sets, and continuously improve their performance" (Tavares, 2023). With AI being dynamic it will take so

Week 2 - MBA 6601 - Side Hustle Mixed with AI?

Image
I'm running a little behind with the posts for week 2, which honestly matched really well with the article posted earlier. Steve Jobs, an entrepreneur, business man and apparently a side hustler? In an interview done by INC. Steve Jobs stated "Without owning something -- over an extended period of time...without the experience of actually doing it, you never get three-dimensional." (Haden, 2023). Its later explaining that the third dimension is creating a well rounded, prepared, and successful person. As of lately, between working part time and full time jobs, I am also a real estate investor managing my rental properties. This takes up a little bit of time, but when buying another house there is a lot of paperwork, research, and time needed. Since owning and buying new houses I have learned a lot about what to look for in a house. In addition this exposed me to contracting and negotiating with contractors for construction. Part of this construction comes with designing

Week 2 - MBA 6601 - Public Health and AI

Image
Public Health is a field that is still growing. Since the pandemic it has been a topic of discussion in everybody's daily life. The same thing can be said with Artificial Intelligence. AI is a very new field and has made some crazy advances in the last few years since its conception. At work we had our annual safety and education day learning about what is new and research that is happening on our hospitals helicopters. While at the training we learned that we just recently flew a pig as a test patient. This pig was completely treated by AI, initiating blood, adjusting ventilator settings, establishing venous access, and monitoring vital signs to name a few advances that were done on this test flight. This was all with the assistance of AI, and very little human input. This is great advancement for both fields (University of Pittsburgh, at. el). Just like in Air Medical treatments and transports there are a lot aspects that go into public health as well. Public health is sometimes

Week 1 - MBA 6601 - AI in Prehospital Medicine

Image
As I already work in Medicine I found this week topic very interesting and eye opening about how much AI is already integrated into my job. For anyone that works in Healthcare knows that we practice medicine because it is always evolving and changing with new studies, methods, or ideas in the field. Some examples of AI that I used while at work just this past week is what my post is going to be orientated around.  Prehospital medicine we interact with people for a lot of different reasons. One of the most frequent complaints that patients have I would say is chest pain. We carry monitors on every ambulance that can record the rhythm in the heart and preform a 12 lead which provides different views of the heart to look for a heart attack. This is important for the patient because we can transport to the correct hospital, activate the correct teams and decide if the patient needs lights and sirens or even a helicopter to get there very quickly. One thing that has changed in the past few

Week 1 - MBA 6601 - Introduction

Image
Hello!!                My name is Joshua Scaletta, I am a current flight paramedic in the Greater Pittsburgh, PA Area. AI (Artificial Intelligence) has a large role in my current role and I think that it is the future of not only medicine but all career fields in the United States. Not to get all nerdy and talk medicine in this post since its meant to be about AI. Currently on the helicopter we use different tools and equipment to treat our patients. Currently the ventilator uses AI to better adjust the settings and rates for the patient per very little input from the providers, ie. humans. This type of ventilation is very new but effective at treating the patient and allowing my concentration on other things like medications, fluids, reports, and other aspects of patient care.                 I'm excited to be taking this course to learn more about AI and grow both as a provider and possibly one day as a manager with the aid of AI. As I mentioned AI has a current place in medicin
