Week 5 - MBA 6601 -The Algorithm

 With social media being used daily in many of our lives the term "algorithm" is more common. Its described as a way a platform picks what you might see out of hundred of thousands of hours being uploaded on the platform. Many even state im on "blank" tiktok, examples being dog tik tok, fire tik tok, ect. This is due to maybe liking a video or staying on one longer than the other AI develops a new playlist of videos to be seen. Sometimes people don't even know why or how this happened. 

I know I find my self on some interesting videos on tik tok now, and sometimes I would have never even thought of watching the videos. This includes with the most recent veneer tik tok of unlicensed dentists preforming veneers on people. I watched on video, found it interesting that they were offering a medical procedure for 1000's of dollars off any normal prices. This tik tok turned into a drama scene of other actual medical professionals explaining why this is a horrible idea and that the veneer techs are not a real thing. They are actually highly illegal. 

AI has even gotten better at recognizing what a video is about without having a human input. Majority of the time its correct but you can tell that there is a lack of human input on the output. On the bottom of videos you can see a light black bar with a few words attempting to describe what the video is about. Clicking this bar will take you to a search of that term the AI thinks the video is about. This is how I found the veneer tik tok. I found my first video, then clicked the black bar to watch more videos about it. Then go caught. As so many do with social media, you watch one video, it hooks you then your watching videos for several hours. 

AI has created a platform where social media is now customizable to the person. This is an advancement and implementation that has helped make platforms educational. This education might be for entertainment purposes but could easily translate to the institutional level too allowing AI to learn with you. Find different ways to teach materials to you, recognize where you are struggling, and learn faster by adapting to you since we are all unique.
